History
On 1 June 1951 Poland issued a two-value commemorative set for International Children's Day (Międzynarodowy Dzień Dziecka). Domfil catalogues the pair under that heading as 951.9–951.10 with motifs «Scout» (Explorador) and «Guides» (Guías): 30 groszy olive-brown «Pioneer saluting» (Scott PL 506 / Michel PL 688 / Yvert PL 606 / Domfil 951.9) and 45 groszy blue-green «Boy and Girl Pioneers» with map (Scott PL 507 / Michel PL 689 / Yvert PL 607 / Domfil 951.10).
In the People's Republic the designs show members of the Polish Scout-like youth organisation of the period (Pioneers / Związek Harcerstwa Polskiego under socialist reorganisation), saluting and studying a map — Colnect titles them Pioneer Saluting and Boy and Girl Pioneers. Designed by Stefan Łukaszewski, photogravure, comb 12½ × 12¾. Colnect records print runs of about 2,051,000 (30 gr) and 2,131,000 (45 gr), and validity for postage until 31 May 1952.
For Scouts-on-Stamps collectors the set enters the catalogue via Domfil’s Scout/Guides listing of Eastern-bloc youth designs of this type, rather than as a World Organization of the Scout Movement jamboree issue. Both values are kept as official catalog pieces of this series, ordered by rising face value (sheet SCOUT-1951-POL-01.1 / 01.2).
