History

The Philippines released a 5 sentimo surcharge at Manila on 10 May 1969 for the 4th National Boy Scout Jamboree at Palayan City. The underlying stamp is the 6 sentimo Girl Scout commemorative of 26 May 1966: a Girl Scout in green uniform and brimmed hat giving the three-finger salute, the Tagalog legend «25 Taong Paglilingkod sa mga Kabataang Babae ng Pilipinas» («25 years of service to the young women of the Philippines»), the GSP trefoil on a Girl Scouts ribbon, and PILIPINAS with KOREO below, all lettered in green. A red overprint bars the original 6 sentimo, adds 5s at upper left, and reads 4th NATIONAL BOY SCOUT JAMBOREE PALAYAN CITY–MAY, 1969. De La Rue had printed the 1966 stamp on enamel-coated paper by lithography and photogravure, comb perforated 13 × 12½, in panes of 50. Six million five hundred thousand of the surcharge were issued. A doubled impression of the red jamboree overprint is also recorded.
