History
Bermuda issued a commemorative set at Hamilton on 28 September 1981 for the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Duke of Edinburgh's Award. The Scout-theme value is the 10 cents. It is lettered Bermuda, 10c, THE DUKE OF EDINBURGH'S AWARDS and SERVICE - HAMILTON. A girl in a blue jumper, red tie and dark skirt walks beside a man in a tan suit who uses a white cane; a pink building and a green car stand behind them, in a blue oval. The Award emblem and the dates 1956-1981 sit at the upper left, with a silhouette of Queen Elizabeth II at the upper right.
Leslie Curtis designed the stamp. The House of Questa printed it by offset lithography, in panes of 50 (two panes of 25 with gutter pairs). Sources give the perforation as 14 or 14¼. The paper carries a multiple Crown over CA watermark; sources disagree whether the CA is the script (spiral) letter or the block letter.
The 10 cents is one value of a four-stamp set. The other three — kayaking at Paget Island, climbing at St. David's Island, and a portrait of the Duke — have no Scout design.
