Series history

The 2nd World Scout Jamboree was held at Ermelunden, a few miles north of Copenhagen, from 9 to 17 August 1924. Det Danske Spejderkorps hosted the gathering — the first world jamboree outside England. About 4,549 Scouts took part, of whom roughly 1,725 were Danish. Unlike the indoor Olympia gathering of 1920, participants here camped under canvas in troops and patrols and cooked on their own sites.

Denmark issued no commemorative postage for the event. This perforated plakatmærke (poster stamp) is a non-postal publicity label with no franking value and no face value. The vertical design shows a boy Scout in campaign hat, dark neckerchief, tan shirt and shorts, standing astride with both arms raised and holding a Danish flag (Dannebrog) in each hand, against a radiating sunburst and a rising sun between his feet. The legend reads «JAMBOREE / DANMARK / 1924». Small initials «A & L» appear at lower right — the imprint of the Copenhagen lithographic printers Andreasen & Lachmann (founded 1911), a firm well known for Danish poster stamps; the individual designer of this label is not firmly established.

King Christian X was the jamboree's patron and visited the rain-soaked camp with Queen Alexandrine on the closing Sunday. After the camp week many foreign Scouts stayed on for home hospitality with Danish families, with a closing gathering at Tivoli Gardens on 21 August.
