Notes
Scout with bugle. One value of the 15th Anniversary of the Republic set (Scott 805–810). Domfil 938.15.
Series history
On 29 October 1938 Turkey issued a six-value commemorative set for the fifteenth anniversary of the Republic, proclaimed on 29 October 1923. Only one design in the set is scouting: the 8 kuruş dark lilac (Scott 809 / Michel 1033 / Domfil 938.15), titled in catalogues as Turkish Youth Scouts and showing a Scout with a bugle — Domfil’s motif line is simply «Bugle».
The stamp was printed by Courvoisier in photogravure, perforation 11½, size about 41 × 26 mm. SOSOW records a print run of 100,000 for this value and notes that it is one stamp of the broader set Scott 805–810. The series was issued at Istanbul on Republic Day, the same calendar date as the founding anniversary it celebrates.
The five non-scout companions of the same issue (army parade, Kayseri textile works, Atatürk on a tractor, Samsun–Sivas railway bridge, and President Atatürk) are shown below as optional related material only — not separate catalog pieces of this Scouts-on-Stamps series. For collectors the interest remains the single Scout design within a national political anniversary set: youth and readiness (bugle call) placed among other republican commemorative subjects of 1938.
ATA 1964 lists the full Republic anniversary set companions: 2½ k infantry parade, 3 k Kayseri city view, 6 k President with tractor, 7½ k bridge, 12½ k President Atatürk — with only the 8 k Scout buglers as the Scout design.
