Notes

Scout with Turkish flag. Postal tax for the Turkish Red Crescent, one of eight values (RA101–RA108). Domfil 946.34 «Scout and flag». Print run 25,000 (SOSOW). Litho, perf 11½.

Series history

On 26 August 1946 Turkey issued an eight-value postal-tax set for the 69th anniversary of the Turkish Red Crescent Society (Türkiye Kızılay Derneği) — Domfil’s heading is «Pro War Victims» / Pro víctimas de guerra. The stamps were obligatory postal-tax labels (Scott «RA» series) sold for the benefit of the Red Crescent, not ordinary postage definitives.

Only one design is scouting: the 40 kuruş multicoloured stamp showing a Scout with the national flag (Domfil motif «Scout and flag», Domfil 946.34 / Scott RA105 / Michel Z124). That single Scout value is the catalog piece of this Scouts-on-Stamps series. SOSOW records a print run of 25,000 for the 40k, lithography, perforation about 11½, first day Istanbul.

What makes the issue Scout material is not the Red Crescent anniversary as such, but the deliberate inclusion of a Scout figure carrying the Turkish flag among Red Crescent subjects (hospital ship, air ambulance, train, field camp, nurse, headquarters). Scouting is presented as youth service and national readiness alongside humanitarian relief — the same youth-and-service theme that Domfil groups under the Scout catalogue number 946.34.

The other seven values of the set (Scott RA101–RA104, RA106–RA108) have no Scout design and appear only as optional related images.

ATA 1964 frames the Scout-and-flag 40 k as the Scout value inside the Red Crescent postal-tax set RA101–RA108 (hospital ship, ambulance plane, hospital train, ambulance car, stretcher bearers, nurse/hospital, Red Crescent headquarters), stressing that Scouts were honoured by inclusion among those charity designs.
