Series history
Bulgaria issued its set for the tenth anniversary of 9 September 1944 on 4 September 1954. One value carries the Scout theme and is catalogued here: the 80 stotinki dark blue, Domfil 954.26 «Juventud pionera / Youth pioneers».
The design shows two Young Pioneers standing together, one shouldering a staff with the banner, above the dates 9 септ. 1944-1954 and the country name НР БЪЛГАРИЯ. Alexander Poplilov, Boris Angelushev and Lyuben Zidarov are credited with the set's designs; the 80 stotinki was printed in photogravure, 27 × 36 mm, comb perforation 13, in a run of only 150,000 — small enough to make it the difficult value of the anniversary group.
As with the other Eastern-bloc material of these years, the stamp reaches the Scout catalogues as a youth-organisation design: the Dimitrov Pioneer Organisation, the Bulgarian counterpart of the Romanian and Czechoslovak Pioneer bodies, and the successor to the Young Revolutionaries of 1948. Catalogue references are Michel BG 925, Scott BG 877, Yvert BG 793, Stanley Gibbons BG 960 and Unificato BG 925.
