Notes
Portrait of Baden-Powell set inside a large Scout fleur-de-lis, ornamental border with Persian lettering. Watermark Iranian coat of arms, panes of 50. Domfil 957.1. Quantity 85,000 (SOSOW) — a very small printing.
Series history
Iran issued a single 10 rial commemorative at Teheran on 22 February 1957, Baden-Powell's birthday, for the fiftieth anniversary of Scouting and the centenary of his birth. Domfil catalogues it as 957.1 «Lord Baden-Powell».
The design sets a brown portrait of Baden-Powell inside a large blue-green Scout fleur-de-lis, the whole enclosed in an ornamental border with Persian lettering. The Parliament Printing Office produced it in photogravure, perforated 12½, in panes of 50, on paper watermarked with the Iranian coat of arms — the same workshop and paper as the National Jamboree pair of the previous year.
SOSOW records a printing of only 85,000. Against the two million of Finland's centenary stamp or the 137 million of the British 2½d, that makes this one of the scarcer commemoratives of the jubilee year.
