Series history

Bulgaria issued a set of six on 8 September 1959 for the fifteenth anniversary of 9 September 1944. One value carries the theme and is catalogued here: the 1.25 leva, which Domfil lists as 959.43 «Guías desfilando / Guides marching». The other five are recorded below as non-scout companions.

The design shows three Pioneers in neckerchiefs marching behind a red flag, with the dates 9 СЕПТ. 1944-1959 up the right side and НР БЪЛГАРИЯ along the foot. The rest of the set gives the official account of those fifteen years: partisans on trucks, partisans meeting Soviet soldiers, the Lenin metal works, a tank and a combine harvester — the war, the liberation, heavy industry, the army and collectivised agriculture, with the Pioneers as the generation raised inside it.

Domfil gives the set as 959.38/43. Further references for the Pioneer value are Michel BG 1134, Scott BG 1067 and Yvert BG 986.
