Girl Guide in beret with Baden-Powell portrait; Golden Jubilee of Guiding 1910–1960
Series history
Australia issued a 5 penny commemorative at Brisbane on 18 August 1960 for the fiftieth anniversary of Girl Guiding in Australia.
The design pairs a Girl Guide in beret and trefoil badge with a smaller portrait of Baden-Powell in campaign hat beside her. GOLDEN JUBILEE OF GUIDING 1910–1960 runs across the foot, and a circular Girl Guides jubilee seal ringed by a chain sits at lower right. The stamp is printed in deep ultramarine.
The Note Printing Branch of the Reserve Bank of Australia recess-printed some 66,769,040 copies in panes of eighty, perforated 14½ × 14. Stocks were also perforated with the initials T, GNSW or GV for official government use.
