Series history

Canada issued a 5 cent commemorative at Ottawa on 20 April 1960 for the fiftieth anniversary of the Canadian Girl Guides Association. Domfil catalogues it as 960.1 under «50 Aniversario del escultismo femenino», motif «Emblema / Emblem».

Helen Fitzgerald designed the stamp: the Guide trefoil in a dark-blue oval ringed BE PREPARED · SOIS PRÊTE, under the bilingual arch GIRL GUIDES ASSOCIATION DES GUIDES, with 1910 and 1960 down the sides and CANADA POSTAGE 5c POSTES at the foot. The Canadian Bank Note Company printed it by recess engraving in panes of 100, perforation 12. SOSOW records a print of 31,360,000.

Further references are Scott CA 389, Michel CA 336, Yvert CA 316 and Stanley Gibbons CA 515. Size is given as 26 × 30 mm.
