Red profile of a boy facing left; BOYS' CLUBS OF AMERICA MOVEMENT across the top, 1860–1960 vertically, 4c U.S. POSTAGE at the foot.
Series history
The United States issued a 4 cent commemorative at New York on 18 October 1960 for the centenary of the Boys' Clubs of America movement (1860–1960). Domfil catalogues it as 960.28 under «Centenario del Club de Muchachos», motif «Escultismo / The Scouts» — Domfil's theme label; the organisation is the Boys' Clubs, not the Boy Scouts of America.
C. R. Coiner designed the stamp and M. D. Fenton engraved it: a red profile of a boy facing left beside BOYS' CLUBS OF AMERICA MOVEMENT, with 1860–1960 down the left and 4c U.S. POSTAGE at the foot. The Bureau of Engraving and Printing produced it on the Giori press in panes of 50, perforation 11. Print figures of about 123,690,000 are commonly cited.
