Girl Scout in white uniform with red neckerchief and badge sash, saluting beside a gold trefoil

Series history

The Ryukyu Islands issued a 3-cent commemorative on 31 August 1964 for the tenth anniversary of the Ryukyuan Girl Scouts. Seikichi Tamanaha designed a Girl Scout in white uniform with a red neckerchief and badge sash, giving the three-finger salute beside a large gold trefoil with a blue star in the left leaf; the stamp is inscribed 琉球ガールスカウト創立10周年記念 and RYUKYUS 1964. The Japanese Government Printing Works printed about 800,000 copies by photogravure in panes of twenty with a border inscription, perforated 13½. Specimen stamps with the みほん (mihon) overprint also exist.
