Series history

Iran issued a 6 rial commemorative at Tehran on 9 July 1969 for Philia, an outdoor course for Boy Scout patrol leaders. The stamp is inscribed OUTDOOR COURSE FOR PATROL LEADERS and Philia, with IRAN and پست ایران down the left and the Persian year 1348. Abotalebi of the Iranian Boy Scouts designed a campsite of yellow tents beneath a mountain at upper right, a stylized split face bound by a rope that spreads into roots, and a gold fleur-de-lis. The Parliament Printing Office lithographed the stamp in panes of 50 on paper watermarked with a Persian inscription and the coat of arms in a circle, line perforated 10½. Three hundred thousand were issued; the stamp remained valid until 1 April 1979.
