Series history

Sct. Georgs Gilderne i Danmark issued an annual Good Turn charity seal from 1968. The labels had no postal validity. They were sold through local guilds and Scout groups; the surplus supported Danish Scout work (with priority to disability sections), work among Greenlandic children, overseas youth work, humanitarian relief, and the national guild's other social purposes.

The 1970–71 sheet is a pane of fifty labels in five columns of ten, printed in offset in red, white, blue and black. The pane is tête-bêche: the lower twenty-five labels are inverted relative to the upper half, so that two large composite fleurs-de-lis, each built across a 5×5 block, stand crown to crown. Individual labels show fragments of the fleur-de-lis, the Danish Dannebrog, or a blue field, and are inscribed GOOD TURN 1970-71 or GOOD TURN 70-71 and SCT. GEORGS GILDERNE I DANMARK.

The top margin names I.F.O.F.S.A.G., the International Fellowship of Former Scouts and Guides. The bottom margin names the issuer and 3. SILKEBORG GILDE, the Silkeborg guild that produced and distributed the seals. Sheets carry a serial number; the example illustrated is Nr. 006895.

Niels Johansen proposed a guild Christmas seal at 3. Silkeborg's 1965 Christmas guild hall, originally to fund the Sct. Georgs troop's work with disabled Scouts. After two years of formalities, including with the Ministry of Justice, the first national Good Turn seal appeared in 1968. 3. Sct. Georgs Gilde in Silkeborg continued to print and distribute the issue. The designer is not named on the sheet.
