Series history
Iran issued a 2 rial commemorative at Tehran on 9 December 1972 for the twentieth anniversary of the Iranian Scout Association. The stamp shows the association's badge, a gold-outlined fleur-de-lis with a sun and wings in the upper petal, a lion's head at the centre, and a blue scroll of Persian script on a knotted gold rope, against a purple-to-cream ground. It is inscribed IRAN, 20th SCOUTING ANNIVERSARY and 3rd DEC. 1972, with the face value 2 R. The stamp was printed by lithography in panes of fifty on paper watermarked with a Persian inscription and the coat of arms in a circle, line perforated 10½. Five hundred thousand were issued; the stamp remained valid until 1 April 1979.
