Series history

Romania issued a 2.20 lei commemorative on 20 April 1976 for the centenary of the Romanian Red Cross, lettered SOCIETATEA DE CRUCE ROȘIE DIN ROMÂNIA 1876–1976 and POȘTA ROMÂNĂ. Dumitru Dănilă designed it — the plate is signed D. DĂNILĂ — and Fabrica de Timbre in Bucharest printed it by photogravure, comb perforated 13½, 33 × 49 mm, without watermark, in a run of 1,000,000.

The design shows a nurse in a dark uniform with a Red Cross armband bandaging the wrist of a child in a white shirt and red Pioneer neckerchief, beside a first-aid tent.
