Notes
Comb 15. 4th World Scout Jamboree, Gödöllő.
Series history
The 4th World Scout Jamboree was held at Gödöllő, near Budapest, from 2 to 13 August 1933 — the first World Jamboree in continental Europe after the 1929 gathering at Arrowe Park. About 25,000 Scouts from dozens of countries camped under the patronage of the Hungarian state and the Scout movement’s international leadership. Hungary marked the event with a definitive-format commemorative set released on 10 July 1933 (SOSOW).
All five values share the same emblematic design: a leaping stag (the traditional Hungarian Scout symbol) with the double cross of St. Stephen — colours changing by face value (10, 16, 20, 32 and 40 fillér). Designers Sándor Légrády and Juliske Raulscher; printed by the state works in photogravure, usually comb 15, in panes of 100, watermark St. Stephen’s Cross on pyramid. Print runs ranged from about 130,000 to 335,000 depending on the value. The stamps were valid for postage until 30 September 1933.
Besides the normal perforated issue, imperforate stamps of the same designs exist and are collected as a parallel set. This catalogue lists each face value once perforated and once imperforate (ten pieces total), without further shade or marketplace duplicates.
ATA 1964 records about 21,000 Scouts from forty-six lands at the Gödöllő Jamboree (figures vary slightly between sources; SOSOW and modern estimates often cite around 25,000). All five values show the leaping stag and St Stephen’s double cross — the stag was the Jamboree emblem. Scout cancellations name Gödöllő with «Jamboree» and the date; a hand-stamped Scout-badge cachet was available to Jamboree Scouts for their mail. Imperforate stamps also exist.
