Notes
Girl Guide in uniform before mountains; SCOUT / POSTES AFGHANES
Series history
Afghanistan issued two commemoratives and a souvenir sheet at Kabul on 23 July 1961 for Women's Day. The stamps show a Girl Guide in uniform against mountain country; both are inscribed SCOUT and POSTES AFGHANES, with the Hijri year 1340 alongside 1961.
The 50 pul is in magenta and the 175 pul in green. Perforated and imperforate singles were produced, together with perforated and imperforate souvenir sheets that pair both values beside a tulip, headed JOURNEE DES FEMMES. The Austrian State Printing Office printed the stamps by photogravure in panes of fifty, perforated about 14 × 13½. The souvenir sheet is reported at 5,000 copies. The issue was sold only on the day of issue.
