Series history

Suriname issued five semi-postals at Paramaribo on 19 August 1961 for the Caribbean Girl Guides Jamborette. The stamps remained valid for postage until 31 December 1961.

N. Loning designed the set. The 8 + 2 c shows a Guide signalling with semaphore flags; the 10 + 3 c a Guide giving the three-finger salute; the 15 + 4 c four Brownies around a toadstool; the 20 + 5 c Guides at a campfire; and the 25 + 6 c two Guides cooking over an open fire. Each stamp is inscribed jamborette 1961 and SURINAME.

Joh. Enschedé & Sons lithographed 122,708 copies of each value in panes of fifty. The horizontal designs (8 + 2, 15 + 4 and 25 + 6 c) are perforated 14 × 13½; the vertical designs (10 + 3 and 20 + 5 c) are perforated 13½ × 14.
