Portrait of King Vajiravudh (Rama VI) with Cub, Girl and Boy Scouts

Series history

Thailand issued three photogravure stamps at Bangkok on 1 November 1961 for the fiftieth anniversary of Thai Scouting, founded in 1911 under King Vajiravudh (Rama VI). The designs are by the Department of Fine Arts; printing was at the Japanese State Printing Works, with watermark of wavy lines. Print runs were 1,000,000 of the 50 satang and 500,000 each of the 1 baht and 2 baht.

The 50 satang (pink carmine) shows the Thai Scout tiger-head emblem inside a fleur-de-lis and a three-finger salute. The 1 baht (green) places two Scouts — one holding the national flag, one saluting — before a camp building among trees. The 2 baht (blue) pairs a portrait of King Rama VI in dress uniform with Cub, Girl and Boy Scouts walking in the background. Sources give the perforation as 13 or 13½.
