Series history

Lebanon celebrated fifty years of Scouting with an eight-value set issued in Beirut on 1 March 1962. The ordinary postage denominations show a bugler (½ p), a scout with the Lebanese flag beside a cedar fleur-de-lis (1 p), stretcher-bearers (2½ p), a portrait of Baden-Powell (6 p), and two scouts at a campfire (10 p). Three airmail values follow: the cedar fleur-de-lis (15 p and 25 p) and the three-finger salute (20 p). Each stamp is bilingual French and Arabic under the heading Le Scoutisme au Liban, with the designer and printer credited in the margin as Shammout and Imp. Cortbawi.

Print runs are given as 250,000 of each value. Designer Ismail Shammout; Cortbawi; lithography in panes of 50. Perforation varies within the set: 13½ × 13 on the ½ p, 6 p and 20 p; 13 × 13½ on the remaining values.
