Notes

Scout fleur-de-lis on a gear-like form with yellow three-rayed sun; motto VERTU VIÐBÚINN; pale green ground

Series history

Iceland issued two photogravure commemoratives at Reykjavík on 24 April 1964 honouring Icelandic Scouting. Árni Sveinbjörnsson designed a common type: the Icelandic Scout motto VERTU VIÐBÚINN above a stylized Scout emblem — a fleur-de-lis set against a gear-like form with a yellow three-rayed sun and a central banner reading ÍSLAND. The 3.50 krónur stamp is on a light-blue ground; the 4.50 krónur on a pale green ground. Helio Courvoisier printed the set in panes of fifty. Each value had a print run of 1,500,000. Perforation is given as about 11½–11¾.
