Series history

Nicaragua issued ten postal-tax stamps and an imperforate airmail souvenir sheet for the 7th Central American Scout Camporee (National Jamboree). Each 5 centavo stamp carries a black fleur-de-lis and the overprint CAMPOREE SCOUT 1965 on a different orchid design from a SOBRETASA POSTAL series drawn after J. Heller and printed in photogravure by Helio Courvoisier S.A.; the species named on the stamps are Hexisia bidentata, Schomburgkia tibicinus, Stanhopea ecornuta, Lycaste macrophylla, Maxillaria tenuifolia, Cattleya skinneri, Cycnoches egertonianum, Bletia roezlii, Sobralia pleiantha, and Oncidium cebolleta with Oncidium ascendens. Postal-tax stamps are not ordinarily valid for postage, but this set was validated by official decree.

The souvenir sheet overprints the same Camporee legend on five airmail designs from the Baden-Powell birth-centenary issue printed by the Austrian State Printing Works in Vienna: Joseph A. Harrison (30 c), the decoration of President Somoza (40 c), an Explorer Scout (75 c), a Boy Scout (85 c), and Lord Baden-Powell (1 córdoba). The sheet margin commemorates the centenary of Baden-Powell's birth (1856–1956). Sources give conflicting December 1965 issue dates for the stamps and the sheet.
