Series history
Mali issued two commemorative stamps on 25 July 1966 for the Malian Pioneers. Both are recess-printed after designs by Jacques Derrey, comb perforated 13, and measure about 40 × 25 mm. Each is inscribed REPUBLIQUE DU MALI and, at the foot, PIONNIERS MALIENS; POSTES runs vertically in the margin. The Pioneer shield — the green, yellow and red of the national flag with the motto AGIR — appears on both values.
The 5 f shows the initiation oath: a Pioneer in white shirt and red beret extends his right arm forward, palm down, while a line of similarly uniformed youths returns the same gesture, the AGIR shield between them. The 25 f shows five Pioneers in berets reaching toward the centre with hands meeting in a shared dance gesture, the same shield at lower left.
Face values are 5 and 25 francs. Imperforate copies of the pair are recorded.
