Horizontal airmail: a raised Scout sign at left, a campsite of tents before evergreen trees and mountain peaks (Borah Peak, Idaho), and the 1967 World Jamboree emblem at upper right. Inscribed REPUBLIQUE DU CONGO, POSTE AERIENNE and JAMBOREE 1967; value 70F. Signed MONVOISIN.
Series history
The Republic of the Congo (Brazzaville) issued two airmail stamps on 29 September 1967 for the 12th World Scout Jamboree, held at Farragut State Park, Idaho, United States, from 1 to 9 August 1967. Michel Monvoisin designed the set. The Imprimerie des Timbres-Poste in Paris printed it in recess, comb perforated 13. The issue was withdrawn from sale on 20 December 1968.
The 50 f shows Scouts with packs and staffs marching past a large ridge tent, with another line of Scouts on a distant ridge and the 1967 World Jamboree emblem inset at right. The 70 f shows a raised Scout sign, a campsite of tents before evergreen trees and mountain peaks (Borah Peak), and the same jamboree emblem at upper right. Both are inscribed REPUBLIQUE DU CONGO, POSTE AERIENNE and JAMBOREE 1967; Monvoisin's signature appears on each design.
Both values also exist imperforate. De luxe proofs of the set are recorded.
