Series history

The Mutawakkilite Kingdom of Yemen issued seven stamps at Qara on 10 September 1967 for the 12th World Scout Jamboree, held in Idaho, United States. The set was printed by offset lithography, comb perforated 13, and also released imperforate, in a common vertical format of about 33 × 46 mm. Ten thousand copies of each stamp value are recorded, and eight thousand of the souvenir sheet. Designer and printer are not established. The postal status of the issue is disputed.

The four postage values show a Scout bugler before tents (¼ b and 4 b) and a cooking pot hanging over a camp fire among tents (½ b and 6 b). The three airmail values show a green Scout fleur-de-lis before the red Mutawakkilite flag with white sword and stars (⅛ b and 10 b), and a Scout with staff looking up at a space capsule in flight (20 b). An imperforate souvenir sheet carries the 20 b design on a yellow ground patterned with white fleurs-de-lis, with the kingdom’s flag and bilingual Jamboree 1967 inscriptions in the margins. The stamps are inscribed THE MUTAWAKKELITE KINGDOM OF YEMEN.
