Notes

Girl Guide cooking over a campfire; Olave Baden-Powell left, Queen Elizabeth II right

Series history

Barbados issued three commemoratives on 29 August 1968 for the golden jubilee of Girl Guiding on the island, marked on the stamps as 1918–1968. Each design places a portrait of Olave Baden-Powell, World Chief Guide, at upper left and Queen Elizabeth II in an oval at upper right, under a GOLDEN JUBILEE ribbon.

The 3 cents shows a Girl Guide in uniform kneeling beside a campfire, tending a cooking pot hung from a wooden tripod. The 25 cents depicts Pax Hill as a long white building with an A-frame tent nearby; the façade is inscribed PAX HILL beneath GOLDEN JUBILEE / GIRL GUIDES / 1918–1968. The 35 cents centres the Girl Guide trefoil badge, with 1918 and 1968 flanking the emblem.

Designed by Victor Whiteley and printed in photogravure by Harrison & Sons in panes of 50; comb perforation 14½; no watermark.
