Series history

Romania issued a six-value commemorative set on 9 June 1968 devoted to the Pioneer organisation (Organizația Pionierilor), the state youth movement of the Socialist Republic. Vladimir Stoianov designed the stamps; Fabrica de Timbre in Bucharest printed them by photogravure. Each value measures 55 × 21 mm, is perforated comb 13½, carries no watermark, and had a print run of 250,000.

The horizontal designs show Pioneer life rather than Scouting: three Pioneers before a torch-bearing heroes' monument (5 bani); an instructor fastening a red neckerchief on Young Pioneers (40 bani); model-making with aeroplanes and a sailboat (55 bani); radio work with headphones and a mast (1 leu); folk dancing in traditional costume (1.60 lei); and a tent camp with a map or book (2.40 lei). Each stamp is inscribed POSTA ROMANA and dated 1968.
