Series history
Botswana issued three commemoratives on 21 August 1969 for the 22nd World Scout Conference, which opened that day at Otaniemi, Finland. The stamps are inscribed BOTSWANA, 22nd WORLD SCOUTING CONFERENCE and 21st AUGUST 1969. Staff artists of Thomas Delrieu designed the set. The 3 cent, horizontal, shows a Scout in khaki, green beret and neckerchief standing at attention beside a green panel in a lashed-pole frame; the panel carries an orange fleur-de-lis labelled MASUPATSELA and a recumbent lion. The 15 cent, vertical, shows three Scouts cooking in open country: one serves food at a table while two tend a pot hung from a tripod over a fire, with the same emblem and a recumbent lion at the foot. The 25 cent, horizontal, shows Scouts seated in a circle around a campfire in a thatched shelter, with the fleur-de-lis at upper left and a lion’s head at upper right. Format International Security Printers lithographed the stamps in panes of 50, comb perforated 14 × 13¾ (13¾ × 14 on the vertical 15 cent). Printings were 355,321 of the 3 cent, 46,322 of the 15 cent and 46,214 of the 25 cent.
