Notes

Portrait of Sheikh Ahmad bin Ali Al Thani; three Scouts raising the Qatari flag. Inscribed 10th SCOUT JAMBOREE 1969.

Series history

Qatar issued six commemoratives and a souvenir sheet at Doha on 18 September 1969 for the country’s 10th National Scout Jamboree. Each stamp is inscribed 10th SCOUT JAMBOREE 1969 and QATAR, with a red Arabic banner at the head and a column of Scout kit — flags, hat, rope and pack — along the left edge. Bradbury Wilkinson lithographed the stamps in panes of 50, perforated 13½ × 13, 44.5 × 33.5 mm. The 1 dirham shows Scouts working on a beached dhow beside a lashed-pole tower. The 2 dirhams show two Scouts in ghutra lashing poles, with tents and a row of flags behind them. The 3 dirhams show a Scout drum corps in campaign hats over ghutra, watched by two men in thobes. The 60 dirhams show a stone camp gateway with tents beyond. The 1.25 riyals show a ceremonial gateway topped with national flags and a gold fleur-de-lis. The 2 riyals carry a portrait of Sheikh Ahmad bin Ali Al Thani beside three Scouts raising the Qatari flag. The souvenir sheet, 128 × 110 mm, gathers the four dirham values with simulated perforations; the margin is inscribed 1 Riyal and bears a portrait of the Sheikh.
