Series history

Japan issued a 15 yen commemorative on 26 July 1970, at Hiroshima and other cities, for the fiftieth anniversary of the Girl Scouts of Japan. Takao Yamanouchi designed a Girl Scout in uniform giving the three-finger salute before a white tent and the Japanese flag; the sleeve carries patches lettered TOKYO and 50. The Government Printing Bureau of the Ministry of Finance printed about 21 million copies by photogravure in panes of twenty, comb perforated 13, measuring 26 × 30 mm. The stamp is inscribed NIPPON and ガール・スカウト運動50周年記念. Specimen stamps with the みほん (mihon) overprint also exist.
