Series history
The Dominican Republic issued two postage stamps and an airmail at Santo Domingo on 7 December 1973 for the 50th anniversary of Dominican Scouting (1923–1973). Editorial Padilla printed the set by offset lithography, comb perforated 12, in panes of 50. Sources give no designer. The 1 c and 5 c each had a print run of 500,000; the 21 c airmail 300,000. Each stamp is inscribed 50º ANIVERSARIO, REPUBLICA DOMINICANA, SCOUT DOMINICANO and 1923–1973.
The 1 c shows a Scout fleur-de-lis with the Dominican flag in the centre and a scroll lettered AÑO CINCUENTENARIO. The 5 c shows two Scouts with the national flag. The 21 c (CORREO AEREO) shows two Scouts lashing a tripod over a campfire, with a portrait of Baden-Powell at upper right.
