Notes
English inscription NEW HEBRIDES CONDOMINIUM and 5 GOLD FRANCS. Two men in an outrigger canoe: one stands with a spear, the other paddles. Labelled FISHERMAN. Diamond badge with a yellow fish at lower left.
Series history
The New Hebrides Condominium issued eight commemoratives on 5 August 1975 at Port-Vila (French) and Vila (English) for the 14th World Scout Jamboree, Nordjamb 75, in Norway. The condominium released two parallel sets of the same four designs: one inscribed NEW HEBRIDES CONDOMINIUM in English, the other CONDOMINIUM DES NOUVELLES-HÉBRIDES in French. John Cooter designed them. House of Questa printed them by offset lithography, 33 × 49 mm, perforated 14 × 13½, in panes of 25. Each stamp carries the Nordjamb 75 mountain mark and a Scout fleur-de-lis, with the French RF and British ER ciphers in the header.
The 25 goldcentime, labelled CANOEIST or CANOTIER, shows a Scout in a yellow kayak on a tropical river and a diamond canoeist badge. The 35 goldcentime, CAMP COOK or CUISINIER, shows three Scouts at a stone camp-fire. The 1 goldfranc, MAP MAKER or CARTOGRAPHIE, shows two Scouts with a map beside water and mountains, and a diamond badge of compasses. The 5 goldfranc, FISHERMAN or PÊCHEUR, shows two men spear-fishing from an outrigger canoe, with a diamond fish badge.
Whether the English inscriptions carry a St Edward's Crown and CA multiple watermark is not settled.
