Series history
Papua New Guinea issued four commemoratives at Port Moresby on 10 August 1977 for the fiftieth anniversary of Girl Guides, 1927–1977. Each stamp is landscape, 36 × 26 mm, inscribed papua new guinea and 50th Anniversary of Girl Guides, and carries a large Girl Guide trefoil badge lettered G G, GIRL GUIDES and 1927-1977. Richard Bates designed the set. The House of Questa printed it by offset lithography, comb perforated 14½ × 15, in panes of 50. The stamps were withdrawn from sale on 10 February 1978. A presentation pack was issued.
The 7 toea has a gold badge and three Guides standing together: two in light-blue uniforms with yellow neckerchiefs, one in khaki. The 15 toea has a blue badge and two Guides in a mountain landscape, one kneeling with a sheet or map, the other pointing toward the hills. The 30 toea has a red badge and two Guides washing clothes at a stream. The 35 toea has a green badge and two Guides cooking: one tends a fire, the other works a mortar.
