Notes
A Scout in a green shirt, red-and-white neckerchief and dark cap stands on rocks with a fishing rod as a large red fish leaps. Circular Scout fleur-de-lis. Inscribed YEMEN ARAB REPUBLIC; POSTAGE; WORLD JAMBOREE; 25 FILS.
Series history
The Yemen Arab Republic issued seven stamps and two souvenir sheets on 1 May 1980, inscribed WORLD JAMBOREE, for the 15th World Scout Jamboree — the gathering planned for Iran that was not held. Each stamp is lettered YEMEN ARAB REPUBLIC and carries a Scout fleur-de-lis. Offset lithography, comb perforated 14, in sheetlets of eight. Sixteen thousand of each stamp were printed, two thousand imperforate sets, and five thousand of each souvenir sheet. Designer and printer are not established.
The 25, 35, 40 and 50 fils are inscribed POSTAGE: a Scout fishing as a red fish leaps; Scouts before a Concorde; Scouts with the republic's flag and a rider sounding a horn; two Scouts at a telescope under the moon. The 60, 75 and 120 fils are inscribed AIR MAIL: Scouts and a cyclist; two fencers beside a poppy; a Scout with a butterfly net and a knight butterfly. The same seven designs exist imperforate.
The 300 fils souvenir sheets are inscribed AIR MAIL. One, perforated, shows Lord Baden-Powell and a Scout rowing, with a coastal town in the margin. The other, with simulated perforation, shows a gold fleur-de-lis and a Scout saluting, with the towers of a Yemeni city behind.
