Notes
A Scout pennant on a staff, with a circular emblem at the head and long hanging ribbons against a dark field; three emblems in a vertical band at left. Signed C. Haley.
Series history
Dahomey issued four commemorative stamps and a souvenir sheet at Cotonou on 17 October 1966 honouring Boy Scouts. Claude Haley designed the set; the Imprimerie des Timbres-Poste in Paris printed it in recess, comb perforated 13, in panes of 25. The issue was withdrawn from sale on 1 April 1967.
The 5 f shows a Scout flag-signalling with two semaphore flags while another Scout sits nearby. The 10 f shows a Scout pennant on a staff, with a circular emblem at the head and hanging ribbons. The 30 f shows two Scouts seated by a camp-fire whose rising form suggests the outline of Africa. The 50 f shows Scouts building a wooden footbridge over water. The souvenir sheet, face value 95 f, gathers the four designs; its lower margin is inscribed IMPRIMERIE DES TIMBRES-POSTE - PARIS.
Imperforate stamps and deluxe proofs of the set are recorded but are not treated here as catalogue pieces.
