Series history
Cuba issued two commemoratives on 4 April 1969 for the Unión de Pioneros de Cuba and the Unión de Jóvenes Comunistas. The Asociación de Scouts de Cuba had been dissolved after the revolution; the Pioneers, founded in 1961, took the children's outdoor programme, and the UJC the older youth.
The 3 centavo, inscribed UNION DE PIONEROS DE CUBA, shows Pioneers in blue neckerchiefs at a table and at the salute, a tented camp and a red flag behind them, and the UPC emblem with the motto SEREMOS COMO EL CHE. The 13 centavo, inscribed UNION DE JOVENES COMUNISTAS, is a montage of a militiaman with a rifle, field workers, a student at a desk, and the UJC star bearing ESTUDIO, TRABAJO, FUSIL. Both are offset lithographed, 44 × 28 mm, line perforated 12½, on paper watermarked R de C. Printings were 1,130,000 of the 3 centavo and 630,000 of the 13 centavo.
