1973 Scoutisme airmail: three Scouts in a wooden pirogue among reeds, one poling; disc with the map of Africa and the World Scout emblem. Original 15F barred; surcharged 100F. Overprinted in black XIe JAMBORÉE PANARABE / DE BATROUN — LIBAN. Inscribed REPUBLIQUE DU DAHOMEY, SCOUTISME, POSTE AERIENNE, ADDIS-ABEBA - NAIROBI - 1973 and M. MONVOISIN.
Series history
Dahomey issued two airmail stamps in Cotonou on 19 July 1974, overprinted and surcharged on the 1973 Scoutisme pair. The 15 francs, three Scouts in a pirogue among reeds, was barred and revalued 100 francs, overprinted in black XIe JAMBORÉE PANARABE DE BATROUN — LIBAN. The 20 francs, a portrait of Baden-Powell in a Scout hat, was barred and revalued 140 francs, overprinted in red XIe JAMBOREE PANARABE DE BATROUN - LIBAN. Michel Monvoisin designed and engraved the underlying stamps, signed M. MONVOISIN; the Imprimerie des Timbres-Poste, Paris, printed them by recess, comb perforated 13, with the overprint in typography.
