Series history

The People's Republic of Benin issued two commemoratives at Cotonou on 16 August 1976 for the African Scout Jamboree at Jos, Nigeria. Each stamp is landscape, 50 × 30 mm, inscribed REPUBLIQUE POPULAIRE DU BENIN, POSTES and JAMBOREE AFRICAIN JOS, NIGERIA 1976, and carries a circular Scout fleur-de-lis. Claude Andréotto designed the pair. Delrieu, Paris, printed it in offset lithography, comb perforated 12½, in panes of 25, without watermark. The stamps are signed C. ANDREOTTO and DELRIEU.

The 50 franc shows a camp scene — a Scout stirring a pot at a table, two others seated — beside close portraits of two Scouts, one in a wide-brimmed hat. The 70 franc shows three Scouts standing with their arms across one another's shoulders against foliage.

Imperforate stamps of the same designs are known; they are not given separate numbers.
