Series history
Montserrat issued four commemoratives and a souvenir sheet on 2 April 1979 for the fiftieth anniversary of Scouting on the island. John Waddington Studios designed the issue; Walsall Security Printers printed it by offset lithography on paper watermarked Crown over Block CA in a diagonal multiple. The stamps are comb perforated 14, in panes of fifty as two panes of twenty-five with gutter pairs. The 40 cents shows four Cub Scouts crouched in a line on grass, in green shirts, brown shorts and green peaked caps. The 55 cents shows two Scouts in khaki with yellow neckerchiefs and green berets at a tripod-mounted signalling instrument, one writing and the other at the instrument. The $1.25, upright, shows three Scouts at a camp-fire in khaki shirts, red neckerchiefs and green berets. The $2, upright, shows five Scouts standing in a circle among trees. Each stamp carries Montserrat, the crown and royal cypher E II R, a Scout fleur-de-lis, and the inscription 50th Anniversary of Scouting. The souvenir sheet gathers the four values on a peach margin lettered Montserrat and 50th Anniversary of Scouting, with a fleur-de-lis in a rope circle and the year 1979; it is harrow perforated 14 and measures 120 × 110 mm. Printings were 30,000 of the 40 cents and of the 55 cents, 25,000 of the $1.25 and of the $2, and 15,000 souvenir sheets. Specimen overprints exist.
