Princess Alice in a pale dress and white hat faces four Guides in dark blue uniform, yellow ties and dark berets. Lettered 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE GIRL GUIDE MOVEMENT IN ST KITTS, ST KITTS and 55c. The left margin reads Visit of HRH Princess Alice 1960. A brown rope frames the design.
Series history
Saint Kitts issued four commemoratives at Basseterre on 21 September 1981 for the fiftieth anniversary of the Girl Guide movement on the island. Each stamp is lettered 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE GIRL GUIDE MOVEMENT IN ST KITTS across the head and ST KITTS at the foot, inside a white frame with a brown rope border.
The 5 cents is a head-and-shoulders portrait of Miriam Pickard, first Guide Commissioner, in a lavender cardigan, white blouse and pearl necklace against a pale lilac ground. The left margin is lettered Miriam Pickard, first Guide Commissioner.
The 30 cents shows Lady Baden-Powell in a blue coat-dress, white hat and medal, standing beside a Guide in a white dress and white hat. The left margin is lettered Lady Baden-Powell's visit 1964.
The 55 cents shows Princess Alice in a pale dress and white hat facing four Guides in dark blue uniform, yellow ties and dark berets. The left margin is lettered Visit of HRH Princess Alice 1960.
The 2 dollars shows three Guides in mid-blue shirts, dark skirts, yellow ties and white socks marching in step. The left margin is lettered Thinking-Day Parade, 1980's.
Jennifer Toombs designed the stamps. Walsall Security Printers printed them by offset lithography, comb perforated 14¼, in panes of 50 (two panes of 25 with gutter pairs), on paper watermarked Crown over Block CA Diagonal Multiple, upright. Specimen overprints exist in two type sizes.
