Notes

An adult Scout and a boy sit on a hillside cooking at a pot, framed by two trees; ridge tents stand on the slope to the right. Scout emblem at upper right. Lettered Brasil81, 5,00 and 4.º JAMBOREE PANPANAMERICANO; plate signed LÚCIA T.V. RAMOS.

Series history

Brazil issued three 5 cruzeiro commemoratives on 22 January 1981, lettered 4.º JAMBOREE PANPANAMERICANO and Brasil81, each with the Scout emblem. Maria Lúcia Tavares Ramos designed them — the plates are signed LÚCIA T.V. RAMOS — and Casa da Moeda printed them by offset lithography, comb perforated 11 × 11½, 45 × 27 mm, without watermark, in panes of 55. Each design was printed in 1,500,000 copies. The stamps were withdrawn from sale on 1 January 1983.

The three designs, all the same face value, show a Scout in a campaign hat seated by a camp-fire; a Scout and a younger boy cooking beside ridge tents; and a Scout holding a staff against a field of tents. The 4th Pan-American Scout Jamboree opened that day at Parque Saint Hilaire in Porto Alegre.
